What is Decaf Coffee? – Facts You Must Know About Coffee

June 23, 2017 By Ryan A. Guess Leave a Comment

Beginning with the coffee! It is one of the most popular types of beverage. People love drinking coffee, but these days decaf coffee has been consumed by many. Because of various health concerns, users prefer coffee with fewer caffeine contents in it.

Ryan Guess (Founder of CoffeeMakered.com)

The meaning of decaf is to remove the caffeine from the coffee. So for those who are looking for some alternative to reduce caffeine consumption, then Decaf is a good option for you guys.

What is Decaf Coffee

Decaf is the short form of the term Decaffeinated Coffee. Caffeine is removed from the coffee beans, using an organic solvent, air, and carbon dioxide.

What is Decaf Coffee

Here the coffee is treated in the solvent till the caffeine is removed from it. The solvent helps in extracting this caffeine out, and finally, the solvent is removed.

Before the roasting and grinding of the coffee beans are performed, the decaffeination process begins. Here the nutritional benefits remain almost the same for decaffeinated and the regular coffee, excluding the caffeine product uses.

The resulting decaf coffee is milder than the regular coffee, and you will find some changes in the color as well. For those who dislike the bitter taste in coffee, they will easily like this Decaf coffee.

So the decaf process is simple, coffee beans are treated with the solvents to remove the caffeine element. Now caffeine is not completely removed from the coffee. In a normal coffee, you will find 70-140mg of caffeine, while this number is reduced to 0-7mg of caffeine in decaf.

If you think that decaf is completely caffeine-free, then you are wrong. It contains some amount of caffeine but reduced to a great extent.

So who should choose the decaf over the regular coffee?

In our opinion, those people who have got any caffeine sensitivity issue can opt for the decaf style. Also, if caffeine intake is restricted to a person, he/she can enjoy drinking the decaf coffee for the love of Coffee!
