How to Make Espresso with Aeropress? | Can Aeropress Make Espresso?

Aeropress, as the name suggests, this coffee has found its way from the popular espresso brewing method. Generally, Aeropress receives the popularity for its mobile design, lightweight, and faster brewing technique. This is the perfect tool which rapidly brews the coffee similar to the espresso and rarely involves any complexities. So, let us break the bubble stating the fact that, Aeropress is the process of making espresso coffee. However, there is a difference between the making the espresso with Aeropress machine and making espresso in an espresso machine, find the description for making espresso in Aeropress in this article.

Aeropress Espresso Recipe

Aeropress is a simple tool which brews the coffee using the pressurized flow of water passing through the bed of coffee grounds. The coffee bed acts as the perforated layer which provides resistance to the water. In fact, the resistance provided by the coffee results in its extraction of the aroma, flavor, and taste of the coffee which you experience in that water(now coffee).

Having said that, let us shed some light on the Espresso brewing method –

Coffee brewing method which channels the hot pressurized water through the tightly packed fine coffee grounds extracting the taste, flavor, and aroma of the coffee grounds in the water(coffee after extraction) is called Espresso.

Does Aeropress Make Espresso?

After reading the previous paragraphs, it is clear to state that Aeropress actually makes single or a double shot. However, making the coffee puck is neither required nor does the term as Aeropress tamper prevails. So, again, how does Aeropress make espresso without even tamping the coffee grounds?

Finally, here are the instructions or the Aeropress espresso recipe of making espresso in Aeropress machine. More brewing the coffee in the Aeropress becomes easy after a few attempts and mastering the drill. Additionally, knowing about the coffee-water ratio to make the perfect Aeropress espresso.

1. Cleaning the Apparatus

Needless to say the importance of maintaining hygiene and eliminating contamination to make the best coffee.

2. Grind the Beans

Coming to the first step of making the coffee from the beginning, you shall grind the coffee beans keeping the ground level slightly finer than the common salt. On the other hand, you can use pre-ground coffee to save some time grinding the coffee.

3. Fill the Grounds Then Pour Water

After the coffee grounds are ready or you if you use the pre-ground coffee then fill the grounds in the brewing chamber of Aeropress. Distribute the coffee evenly, in that container to allow optimum extraction of the grounds. Then pour water into the same chamber, stirr the mixture and leave it still for pre-infusion.

4. Arrange the Apparatus and Coffee

Last but not least, attach the filter cap with a filter paper in it on the Aeropress. Thereafter, place an inverted coffee mug on top of the Aeropress. Finally, hold the coffee mug with one hand and the Aeropress with another hand and turn the whole apparatus setting upside down. You can see the position of the apparatus in the image above.

5. Operate the Plunger

Press the plunger applying uniform effort throughout the way the plunger reaches to the dead bottom.

THE ENDNOTE

To cut a long story short, Aeropress is the coffee maker which brews the coffee equivalent of the espresso. Hence, the answer to the question will be a both ‘yes’ and ‘no’. Yes, because the taste of the coffee is similar to that of espresso because of the similar brewing the Aeropress espresso recipe. No, because the ground level has to be a little coarse compared to the espresso and no need for the Aeropress tamper.
